Are covid-19 vaccines FDA approved?

The short answer is no; until the time of writing this article, none of the covid vaccines in the market are fully approved by the FDA; why? Because normal FDA process requires complete data from the manufacturers that may not be ready to submit yet and the process to approve vaccines can take several months to a few years. Since we live in a pandemic and public health challenge, the FDA gave an emergency use authorization (EUA) for some vaccines.

Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19. That’s because experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. Can you get Covid after being fully vaccinated?

Yes, some vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna showed a high-efficiency rate >90-95% after your second dose, but the remaining 5-10% are the possibility that you may still catch the disease; however, that is often a milder form of covid than if you haven't got the vaccine. 

In addition, it takes time about two weeks or more for the vaccine to kick in and starts protecting you from infection with covid-19.

Not to forget that if new variants appear, there is always a chance that the given vaccine doesn't cover it.

Until now, we are not sure how long the vaccine coverage lasts. It is believed up to 6 months or more, so if your antibodies wane over time, you will be at higher risk of getting infected with covid 19.

Going back to the previous questions on this page, don't forget that vaccines can decrease the transmission of the infection to other people. Still, it doesn't stop it completely, so make sure you take the proper measures not to transmit the virus to your surrounding who are not vaccinated yet.
